Steel Nib
question about steel nib caligraphy pen and ink well… need help?
i just got a steel-nib calligraphy Quill Pen. iv never used one like this one before, so i dont know how to properly get the ink onto the pen without ruining it. its an aladine quill pen that was purchased from barnes and noble… if that can help any…
It is a dip pen, the process is dip the nib into the ink, it should go in slightly further than the small hole in the nib point (if it has one) or to the end of the split as you take it our you should see a bead of ink on the underside of the nib. Next, gently touch the underside against the edge of the inkwell this will pull away some of the bead of ink, now you are ready to write with it, you will need to re-dip, the frequency depends on the size of the writing but it is better to take more time and re-dip than it is to go too far and get a scratchy spatter.
Practice and practice.
Make sure you clean it with water and pad dry with paper towel before you put it away.
